Armata dell'Aiola, Toscana rosso IGT, is a worthy son of its land of origin. It is the result of a perfect blend of Sangiovese grapes, the vast majority of which have been made gentler, or perhaps we should say "tamed" by a generous portion of Merlot, the improvement grape par excellence. Harvested by hand when perfectly ripe, and carefully vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, this red wine rightfully belongs to the category of ready-to-drink wines. The ones that must be uncorked early to enjoy the maximum freshness of its fruit. In the glass the Armata shows a beautiful intense ruby red colour, while the nose reveals very pleasant and intense hints of fresh red fruit such as cherry. In the mouth, however, it offers a perfect correspondence with what is perceived in the nose. A well-balanced wine, it leaves the mouth clean and pleasantly dry, thanks to its ripe and not excessive tannins.
From an ancient fortified castle at the center of noble fratricidal battles during the bloody struggle between the Sienese and Florentines, to a group of Russian entrepreneurs who, in love with the place, decided to relaunch their wine project. In between, the transformation of the fortified castle into a refined manor house, an earthquake that destroyed a large part of the historic residence and even a Senator of the Republic, Giovanni Malagodi, who in the 1970s created the labels we still know today. To read it like that, this estate has lived through a lot of stories. And what stories! Today Fattoria dell' Aiola can count on a total of about 36 hectares of vineyards, spread over the hills of the communes of Castelnuovo Berardenga and Radda in Chianti. Sangiovese dominates over everything, although there are also small plots of other international varieties. From the manual harvest, to the resting in traditional large wooden barrels, the wine of the farm is produced with artisan care.
