What few people know, however, is that the name Donnafugata is due to Gabriella Rallo, wife of the founder and mother of the two enterprising current managers of the company. Gabriella Anca Rallo, a courageous woman with a penchant for innovation, was a pioneer of quality viticulture in Sicily. She is the true 'donnafugata' (woman on the run) who abandoned her job as a teacher to take full-time care of the Contessa Entellina vineyards. One of the first women in Sicily to produce wine, in a sector typically dominated by men. A true pioneer of quality female viticulture. All that remains, therefore, is to say thank you to Gabriella.
