No secrets. No tricks. This Chardonnay Terre di Chieti IGP Bisanzio proposed by Codice Citra is a simple, but pleasant, white wine to be served throughout the meal. When on the table, of course, it dominates the sea and its fruits. Served chilled, it can also be a valid alternative to the classic bubbly aperitif. It’s a 90% cert that guests will suggest continuing with the same glass once dinner is served. It is made from pure Chardonnay grapes, harvested when fully ripe in vineyards in the vicinity of Ortona, in the province of Chieti. Soft pressing and cold maceration to obtain a limpid must which, once decanted, can be sent to fermentation, strictly at a controlled temperature to preserve all the goodness of its aromas, in stainless steel tanks. The result is a delicately perfumed white wine with a brilliant straw colour. The nose reveals well the warmth of its land of origin. The Chardonnay, in fact, shows notes of tropical fruit and yellow flesh. In the mouth, however, it is above all fresh and well balanced in all its components.
Codice Citra represents the largest community of winemakers in Abruzzo, bringing together 3,000 families united by their respect for nature. The headquarters, the impressive winery, is located in Ortona, in the province of Chieti. A few kilometres separate it from the sea. A few more from the foothills of the Apennines. There's another sea in between. It is the one represented by the many vineyards that neatly divide the surrounding countryside. Suffice it to say that there are about 6,000 hectares of vineyards belonging to Citra and that the winery has two bottling lines capable of producing 20,000 bottles of wine per hour. But these numbers should not scare you. Although big, and Codice Citra really is, this winery has never lost the taste (and pleasure) of making good wines. Deeply tied to their home territory, they have been a point of reference for the region for 45 years.
