Château La Croix de Gay Pomerol 2020

From the vineyards of Pomerol, those owned by the historic Château La Croix de Gay, comes this elegant and refined red. Pomerol is a small treasure chest of vineyards covering just 700 hectares. The soils here are composed of ancient gravels and sands that drain water perfectly, giving the grapes a unique character. A skilfully balanced blend, with 97% Merlot, Pomerol's main grape variety, and just 3% Cabernet Franc to bring structure and complexity. From the vineyard to the cellar, each stage of production is conducted with meticulous attention. Harvesting is manual and guarantees careful selection of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in vats and lasts approximately one month. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, carried out partly in barriques, which gives the wine softness and complexity. Maturation, obviously in barriques, 50% new and 50% second passage, gives the wine elegance and structure. Garnet red, the nose reveals an intriguing bouquet of blackberry, chocolate, citrus wood and black tea. In the mouth it conquers with its fullness and juiciness, offering ripe fruit and a long, savoury finish. A perfect balance between power and elegance.
