Chateau Barde Haut
Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé is an important designation identifying the best wines produced in the Saint-Émilion area, renowned for the production of high quality red wines. This classification was introduced in 1955 and is updated periodically. It is based on quality criteria such as the historical reputation of the estate, the quality of the vineyard, the production methods and consistency over time. The wines that can boast this designation are considered among the best in the region and represent the excellence of wine production in the Saint-Émilion area. Château Barde-Haut offers here a worthy representative of this category, composed of a clear predominance of Merlot grapes. In this case, the most versatile grape variety in the Bordeaux region accounts for about 80% of the overall blend, with Cabernet Franc for the remainder. Château Barde-Haut presents itself in the glass with a bright, compact ruby red colour. The nose is a symphony of fresh, mouth-watering fruit, with red and dark fruits alternating with sweet spices and notes of vanilla due to the passage in wood. In the mouth, however, it is intense and well balanced. An elegant and complex red, it is a wine that is certainly not afraid to spend a few years in the cellar. Good already today, if well stored, it is capable of maturing for many years to come. There is therefore no hurry to uncork it, were it not for the pleasure of tasting it. Good with first and second courses of meat, even very tasty ones. Excellent with stewed meats.
Located on the famous Saint-Émilion appellation, Château Barde-Haut is a historic property with a history of over 250 years. Today it is managed by Patrice Lévêque and Hélène Garcin-Lévêque, thanks to whom the winery has acquired an excellent reputation, both in France and abroad. Particularly beautiful is the Château vineyard that occupies a natural south-facing amphitheatre overlooking the Dordogne. Here, as in the entire Saint-Émilion appellation, the soils are perfect for the production of Merlot, which is in fact the most representative grape variety for the winery.
