100% Chardonnay, this Blanc de Blancs, white Champagne made only from white grapes, is one of the good wines offered by Maison Jean de Villaré. Pleasantly fresh and elegant, this cuvée rests for about 3 years on its lees in the bottle, before the delicate disgorgement phase and the addition of 8 grams of sugar per liter that makes it dry but not overdone. Straw yellow in color with greenish reflections, in the glass it is easy to observe how the beautiful chains of bubbles rise, fast and uninterrupted, from the bottom of the glass to the surface, bringing with them the most delicate and fragrant notes typical of its bouquet. Elegant and mineral, the nose reveals hints of acacia flowers and apples. In the mouth, however, it is fresh and fragrant, with a hint of lemon zest. The perfect expression of the Chardonnay grape from the Champagne region. An elegant wine by nature, it should be paired with equally refined dishes. Try it, for example, with plain oysters or sushi. In general, it is the right wine with which to start a festive evening with friends. With an appetizer like this, the evening will undoubtedly take the right turn.
This is the story of young Jean, a native of Paris, who at the age of 15 joined Napoleon's army. Here, thanks to his intelligence he was soon noticed by his superiors, and this enabled him to quickly climb the military hierarchy, reaching the side of the emperor, who (famously) was a Champagne enthusiast. It was thus he who introduced young Jean to the joys of bubbles. And so it was that after serving his long period of exile with Napoleon on St. Helena, Jean decided to return to Paris to start a family. But once home, he realized that city life no longer suited his character and soon decided to leave the capital to seek his fortune in Reims. He thus reached Villaré, a small village where he spent the night in a tavern. The next morning he decided to explore the area, coming across a wonderful vineyard in Chantemanche, just outside Villaré. Having acquired the land, Jean began to cultivate his vines and produce his own bottles of Champagne. Jean de Villaré was born. Everything continued for the best until the end of the 19th century, by which time Jean's estate could count on as many as 60,000 hectares planted with vines. But at that point, all of a sudden, the arrival of phylloxera ruined everything, even causing the uprooting of the vineyards. In the 1980s, the Baron-Fuenté family began to purchase plots of land and replant vines in the same locations. Today, the family owns as many as 10 hectares of Chardonnay in Chantemanche. In memory of the valiant Jean, the Baron-Fuenté family then created the Jean de Villaré brand, which achieves excellent results in major international markets.
