    • Sensations With its intense black cherry colour and youthful ruby rim, this wine offers complex aromas of rich ripe black fruit, with notes of plum, black cherry and blackcurrant. Layers of spice and cedarwood join the fruit to create an unforgettable tasting experience. The dark fruit flavours continue onto the palate, where silky yet firm tannins and balanced acidity combine to create a beautifully rounded wine. This red wine will improve with ageing for up to 8 years, but can already be enjoyed now.
    • Vinification An authentic Cape Blend, dominated by Pinotage and supported by Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is literally a fusion of old and new. Not only in terms of grape varieties and wine styles, but also through the winemaking techniques, with each variety vinified separately to highlight its specific characteristics. After skin maceration, each variety follows its own path in the cellar. Some benefit from traditional pump-overs and fermentation in pressure tanks, while others undergo partial tank fermentation before completing the process in barrel. The wine then matures for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, approximately 33% of which are new. Afterwards, the wines from the individual barrels are carefully selected to compose the final blend.

    Reserve "Drift Fusion" Blend 2021
    • A wine capable of combining centuries-old European tradition with the vibrant energy of South African viticulture. We are talking about the Reserve Drift Fusion from Alvi’s Drift. The very name of the estate recalls a historical anecdote from 1928, when family patriarch Albertus Viljoen van der Merwe, affectionately known as Alvi, created a crossing over the Breede River. That handcrafted structure, which became famous as Alvi’s Drift, united the local community and today symbolises the winery’s philosophy: creating authentic connections and blending different worlds through memorable bottles. This wine proudly carries the title of authentic Cape Blend, a typical and regulated expression that celebrates the wine identity of South Africa. The blend is dominated by Pinotage at 36.5%, the country’s flagship grape variety created in South Africa through the crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsaut. Supporting its structure is a rich network of international varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon contributes 33%, Shiraz 15%, Petit Syrah 7%, Petit Verdot 5% and finally Grenache 3.5%. Each grape variety adds its own essential piece to the final mosaic, balancing structural power, freshness and spicy nuances. Every variety is harvested by hand and vinified separately in order to highlight its varietal characteristics. After meticulous skin maceration, the paths diverge. Some varieties undergo traditional pump-overs and fermentation in pressure tanks, while others complete a partial fermentation before finishing the process directly in oak. The blend then matures for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, one third of which are new. Only after this resting period do the winemakers carefully select the best parcels to compose the final symphony. Deep black cherry colour with a youthful ruby rim. On the nose the wine is broad and layered. Rich aromas of ripe black fruit emerge, with notes of plum, black cherry and blackcurrant, intertwined with elegant hints of cedarwood and sweet spices. On the palate it reveals a round and enveloping body. The fruit flavours return consistently, supported by silky yet firm tannins and balanced acidity that brings energy to the wine. The finish is long, clean and remarkably deep. At the table it calls for dishes with strong structure. It pairs beautifully with herb-crusted rack of lamb or a classic sliced beef steak with green peppercorn sauce.

Welcome to the heart of the Breede River Valley, around two hours by car from Cape Town, South Africa. Here, in a land where nature expresses itself with overwhelming strength and generosity, stands Alvi’s Drift, a private winery with one of the most fascinating family and winemaking stories in South Africa. Everything began in 1928, when family patriarch Albertus Viljoen van der Merwe, still affectionately known today as “Oupa Alvi” (Grandpa Alvi), purchased fertile land along the banks of the Breede River. Oupa Alvi was no ordinary man: alongside his visionary approach to farming, he was a pillar of the local community and an outstanding rugby player, famously scoring the first historic try for the Springboks against the All Blacks on African soil. In 1930, to allow residents and workers to cross the river safely, he built a low-level bridge. That structure quickly became known as “Alvi’s Drift”, meaning Alvi’s ford, a landmark that proudly gives the winery its name today, celebrating its strong connection to the land and the community spirit of its origins. Today, the estate is run by the third generation of the family, with Alvi van der Merwe, grandson of the founder and a former doctor turned winemaker, working alongside his brother Johan. The property is a vast and vibrant ecosystem: in addition to around 410 hectares of vineyards, it includes a modern dairy, orchards and even a private game reserve where native species such as springbok, eland and ostriches roam freely.
