This Brunello di Montalcino DOCG can be considered as the most complex and elegant expression of the Sangiovese grape. In the interpretation of Abbadia Ardenga. A wine of great personality and balance, Vigna Piaggia accompanies important, tasty dishes such as roasts and cheeses, red meats and game. It is aged for about 3 years in Slavonian oak casks, followed by a further 12 months in steel and 12 months in the bottle. In the glass it has a beautiful ruby red colour with garnet highlights. The nose is astonishing for its ample and intense perfume of red fruits and berries. To make it even more complex, then, a light spice and an unmistakable balsamic note. In the mouth it is a full-bodied wine, warm, harmonious and intense, with a long and elegant finish.
A passion for Brunello di Montalcino. This simple statement greets visitors to the website of the Abbadia Ardenga winery, a historic winery of Brunello di Montalcino. An ancient history, the property once belonged to none other than the powerful Piccolomini family, including a Pope Pius II who built the town of Pienza, a masterpiece of the Renaissance. Today, the estate consists of two separate nuclei in the commune of Montalcino, for a total of 650 hectares. Of these, only ten are reserved for vineyards. Cultivated only with Sangiovese, they produce about 40 thousand bottles per year, divided between Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Rosso di Montalcino DOC and a Rosso IGT. The vineyards are located in a hilly area with excellent south-eastern exposure, on the Siena side of the Montalcino municipality.
