When the Champagne is Comtes de Champagne, Grand Cru Rosé, 2008 in this case, we can be sure that this is not the classic everyday bubbly. In this case, time represents a magical ingredient. Comtes de Champagne Rosé, in fact, turns out to be so surprisingly complex precisely because of the long period of aging in the cellar. Many years refining until a perfect balance is achieved. Produced only in exceptional years, Comtes de Champagne, Grand Cru Rosé is composed of a blend of 30% Chardonnay and 70% Pinot Noir. All grapes come from villages classified as Grand Cru. Chardonnays, in particular, are harvested in the Côte des Blancs. While the Pinot Noirs come from the Montagne de Reims. Finally, the red wine, used in the assemblage to give the right note of color, is produced in Bouzy. This village, which is home to several Champagne estates, is also located in the Montagne de Reims wine region, and is known for the quality of its Pinot Noir grapes. If its color is unique and inimitable, this Comtes de Champagne, Grand Cru Rosé presents an extremely delicate and persistent effervescence. The nose hints of strawberries, lime and licorice with hints of roasted coffee and cocoa. In the mouth it is fresh, precise and taut. Fruity notes evident, made more intriguing by a delicate saline freshness. It is the Champagne to uncork on great occasions. Excellent with raw seafood and white meat dishes.
The Taittinger brand does not have a 100-year history. But despite this, it is now considered one of the most famous and important Maisons in all of Champagne. It came into being in 1932 with its acquisition by Pierre Taittinger, an enthusiast of gastronomy and bubbly, who became aware of the estate while serving the French army as a first cavalry officer during the Great War. Today the Maison is run by the third generation of the Taittinger family, with Pierre-Emmanuel and his sons Clovis and Vitalie. La Maison is located near the city of Reims, on the ruins of the Saint-Nicaise de Reims Abbey. Among the Maison's special features are undoubtedly the historic underground cellars, built from gypsum quarries from the Gallo-Roman era. Here the wines have time to mature slowly in contact with their own yeasts. 288 hectares of total property, divided into 34 different crus where Chardonnay is the most significant variety, entering the blend of its most iconic label, the prized Comtes de Champagne. The judgment of experts is unanimous. With a label line that includes several limited editions, vintages and reserves, Maison Taittinger rightfully enters the elite of great Champagnes!
