This shows a little bit too much ash and tar character on the nose for the dried fruit to come through. The tannins are a little dry on the palate, even though the dried fruit is there in abundance. Drink now.
Let's start with the name: Rapujé. It derives from the ancient custom of picking the bunches of grapes forgotten on the vines about fifteen days after the end of the harvest. Then the precious fruit of Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera were processed together to create a wine of excellent quality and pleasantly old-fashioned flavor. Sordo re-offers that traditional wine in a modern key. The grapes, harvested when fully ripe, are sent for vinification as soon as they arrive at the winery. The process involves a long extractive maceration, fermentation and malolactic conversion. Then it is time for refinement in wood, as per tradition in large oak barrels. In the glass it is a ruby red wine with violet hues. On the nose it has delicate and floral scents. On the palate, however, the wine is fresh and fruity. A wine as complex as it is dry and harmonious. A glass that from the first sip takes the mind to those good old days.
The Azienda Agricola Sordo Giovanni is one of the many beautiful family businesses in Piedmont. The location is at the foot of the hill of Barolo, in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto, in the province of Cuneo. Today Giorgio Sordo is at the helm of the Cantina, and his daughter Paola is already joining him, representing the fourth generation of the family and the continuity of the company. Today Sordo can count on a total area of 53 hectares with vines, distributed in the various municipalities that are the cradle of Barolo and Nebbiolo. The company has modern winemaking facilities and an impressive aging cellar with more than one hundred large capacity oak barrels. Moreover, all the production processes, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, refer to the rigorous traditions handed down by the fathers of the current owners.
