Intense and concentrated. This is how Syrah often appears. A red wine of French origin that here in Sicily, in the Belice Valley, seems to have found an ideal habitat. This IGP Terre Siciliane proposed by Siquelia proves it. It comes from grapes harvested when fully ripe and quickly delivered to the Partinico winery for processing. As is customary for the small Sicilian winery, the transformation is "super easy", without any special technical measures that could alter the qualitative potential of the original grapes. So, at the end of a transformation in steel tanks at controlled temperature, the wine is divided into two parts for the final refining phase. One part, about 75% remains in steel, the other is passed into 25 hectolitre French oak casks for about 8 months of maturation. The result is a wine characterised by a beautiful intense dark red colour, with fruity aromas of blueberries, berries and currants. Then spicy notes reminiscent of tobacco, pepper and even chocolate. In the mouth it confirms its nature as a structured, intense and tannic wine. A red wine with good character that undoubtedly requires a weighty pairing. Excellent, for example, with tasty meats such as venison and wild boar, but also with the most classic of grilled red meats or medium-aged cheeses.
Siquelia is Marzia Lo Vecchio's Sicilian company, dynamic and with a strong and decisive character, founded on a passion for her land, with its ancient winemaking traditions, mixed with a sophisticated and refined creative taste. The result is a contemporary line of high quality wines, made from fine grapes of indigenous varieties grown in the Belice Valley, one of the most renowned areas in Sicily today for the production of quality wines, where vines and wine have always been a constant presence. Here the vineyards, located at altitudes ranging from 350 to 450 metres above sea level, have favourable east/west exposures. Ideal microclimatic conditions, with intense sunlight, mild temperatures and a good temperature range between day and night, are key factors in the natural ripening process of the grapes and the concentration of aromatic substances in their skins. After harvesting, the grapes are vinified in Partinico, in the cellar of winemaker Vincenzo Bambina.
