"Regolo" Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore DOC Classico 2020 - Sartori di Verona

Regolo is one of the most popular wines in Sartori's vast production. It is also one of the most representative of its territory. If Valpolicella, in fact, is known throughout the world above all for the quality of its Amarones, it is the Ripasso wines that stand out for their versatility and quality. Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso DOC, Regolo is produced from grapes harvested in the estate vineyards located in the hilly area of Valpolicella, north of Verona. 55% Corvina Veronese, 25% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and the remaining 5% of Croatina, this red wine starts its journey with a traditional vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The fundamental step, however, is the following one, that is to say the "ripasso" of the wine on the marcs of Amarone, in the month of February. During this second very slow fermentation, the wine is enriched with tannins, which ensure a good longevity, and is ennobled thanks to the extraction of the typical aromas of Amarone. The wine is then left to mature in medium and large casks for a period of 18 to 24 months. Bright garnet red in colour, the nose reveals an intense and persistent bouquet. In the mouth it is dry and velvety, with hints of cherry. The body is robust and harmonious. A red wine with great personality, this Ripasso goes well with winter dishes. Excellent with game and tasty cheeses.

In 2018, the Sartori winery turned 120 years old. This fact is probably enough to understand that it is one of the most incredible realities of the Veronese territory. The story of Sartori began in 1898 when Pietro bought his first vineyard in Negrar, in the heart of Valpolicella. An "eccentric personality, but magmatic from a business point of view", as Pietro Sartori is described by his heirs, he was one of the most appreciated "restaurateurs" in the area. In fact, the Sartori trattoria was an essential address for merchants, businessmen and small industrialists in the area, to whom Pietro never failed to offer an excellent Veronese Rosso wine, as it was called at the time. Hence, first the decision to expand his business as a wine merchant, and then the decision to start producing on his own, so that good wine would never be missing from the tables of his loyal customers. Today, Sartori is a successful company with an international vocation, achieving over 80% of its turnover in more than 50 countries, in Europe, North and South America, Russia and South East Asia. In its range, proudly, the great Veronese classics: Valpolicella, Soave, Bardolino, Bardolino Chiaretto, always reinterpreted in an elegant and personalised way.

    A very pleasant Ripasso with super-clean red and black fruit, together with a darker note of charred oak. Medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and a flavorful finish. A tasty, savory option now, but this is well-structured and ready for further bottle aging. Best from 223.
