"Sessantanni" Primitivo di Manduria DOP Magnum 2019
    • A wine that embodies a philosophy of thought and work. Sessantanni, Primitivo di Manduria DOP is one of those reds that has helped change the world's perception of Apulian wines. From powerful blending wines to champions of balance and elegance. Sessantanni, in particular, comes from grapes harvested from old vines that are at least sixty years old and still trained using the traditional Apulian alberello method. “Genius loci”, the (fortunate) result of the unique combination of “genius and physical place”. In other words, a wine like this can only be made here, in this place. In the cellar, after the slow transformation of the grapes, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in steel before being transferred to French and American oak barriques, where it rests for at least 12 months. Very deep and elegant ruby red colour; the nose reveals a broad and complex bouquet. Fruity, with notes of plums and cherry jam, complemented by a hint of spice and tobacco. A full-bodied wine, smooth and rich in noble tannins, it has a finish that offers notes of cocoa, coffee and vanilla. Due to its robust (yet elegant) character, it pairs well with savoury dishes. Excellent with red meat and game.

San Marzano is a small village in the centre of the Primitivo di Manduria PDO area. A strip of land between the seas that bathe Puglia. It was here that 19 winegrowers founded Cantine San Marzano. This was well before the designation of origin was created and Primitivo di Manduria was recognised worldwide. It was 1962. However, it was not until 1996 that the first branded bottles were produced, triggering the transition from a bulk-based economy to the creation of a direct relationship with the end consumer. Today, San Marzano is a successful business, firmly rooted in respect for a tradition with ancient origins, but with an eye to the future.
