Azienda Agricola San Benedetto offers this red wine from the territory. A Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG, the result of processing 95% Sangiovese grapes, with a small addition of Canaiolo and Colorino grapes. The latter vines are typical of the region, sometimes used to soften the rustic Sangiovese, the prince of this denomination. It is no coincidence that this red belongs to that small group of proudly authentic Chianti wines, vinified in cement containers and then aged in 30-hectolitre oak barrels. An unmistakable style that is easy to recognise at first glance. In the glass, in fact, this Chianti has a beautiful bright ruby red colour. The nose reveals a pleasantly fruity wine, with clear notes of cherry, plum and slight floral hints. In the mouth, on the other hand, it reveals itself to be a wine with great structure but, at the same time, also a soft and pleasantly drinkable red. When a red like this is uncorked on the table, at the very least one expects to receive a nice rare steak from the kitchen, with its typical side dish of white beans. Viva la ciccia!
Visiting the website of the Azienda Agricola San Benedetto, in San Gimignano, one discovers a beautiful reality founded as far back as 1826. At that time, the Giannelli family ran a small farm with vineyards, olive groves and livestock at San Benedetto. This farm, called 'podere Casaccia', was managed under the old sharecropping system until the 1960s, when brothers Dario and Giuseppe, with their respective sons, decided to buy the first piece of land. In 1975, therefore, the first part of the winery was built on this very land, with the name Azienda Agricola Giannelli. The rest is the story of an 'ordinary entrepreneurial success' that led to the acquisition of new vineyards and the construction of a larger winery with modern equipment. This led to 1998, when the company took its current name of Azienda Agricola San Benedetto. New name, same goal as always: to produce quality, territorial wines.
