A solid Morellino with cherry, dark-chocolate and walnut aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Flavorful finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
From the Poggio Argentiera winery, this Bellamarsilia is one of the most representative wines. Morellino di Scansano DOCG, this Tuscan red wine comes from a pure vinification of Sangiovese grapes. The vineyards are those in the Baccinello area, about 350 metres above sea level, and the lower ones in the Alberese area, a few kilometres from the coast. Different soils that give rise to grapes with profoundly different characters. What these vineyards have in common, however, is that they are certified organic. Harvested by hand in 20-kilo crates, Bellamarsilia is the result of traditional vinification, with two weeks of maceration on the skins, followed by fermentation and maturation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Brilliant in colour, this Morellino di Scansano is characterised by a rich bouquet reminiscent of well-ripened dark fruit and a delicate touch of undergrowth. A fresh but elegant Sangiovese, it is a wine that is easy to drink. Perfect for more than one occasion, it goes well with a platter of cured meats and cheeses but is also a perfect accompaniment to more savoury dishes such as pappardelle with wild boar ragout.
Poggio Argentiera was established in 1997. The starting point was the Adua farm, dating back to the early 1900s, the time of the Maremma land reclamation. The original 6 hectares were used to produce Morellino di Scansano and only later was the new wine cellar built. Then, in 2001, the property was expanded thanks to the purchase of another farm, Keeling, located in the hilly area, in the municipality of Scansano. Today the company can count on a total of 20 hectares of productive land included in the Morellino DOCG. The vineyards of Podere Adua are located at sea level, a few kilometres from the Tyrrhenian coast. The situation is quite different for the Keeling estate, which is at a higher altitude, in the hills. Since 2009, the entire estate has been run according to the dictates of organic farming, with the aim of seeking a balance between the plant and the surrounding environment.
