Champagne Parmantier-Rigaut - 5 Rue de la Petite Fontaine, 51500 Chamery (Francia)
Champagne Brut Nature by Parmantier-Rigaut is a sparkling wine of great class that chooses the path of absolute purity. Created for those who love straightforward, sincere wines capable of telling the story of their land without filters or cellar tricks. Produced in Chamery, a charming Premier Cru village located in the northern part of the prestigious Montagne de Reims, this historic patch of French land is renowned worldwide for the optimal exposure of its vineyards and its chalk-rich soils. The hills of the Montagne de Reims protect the vines from the cold northern winds, creating a unique continental microclimate that allows black grape varieties to develop an enviable structure and pronounced natural acidity. The base blend is led by Pinot Meunier, present in a generous 80%. Often considered a secondary grape variety, in this bottle it shows all its splendour, bringing with it an irresistible aromatic richness and remarkable immediacy. The remaining 20% is entrusted to Pinot Noir, which contributes the right backbone, structural complexity and that innate elegance only this noble grape variety can provide. Fermentation takes place mainly in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, a technical choice that is ideal for preserving the freshness and original varietal aromas of the grapes. The second fermentation then takes place in the bottle according to the Méthode Champenoise. The wine then undergoes a long and patient ageing on the lees for around 3 years in the silent cellars of the maison. At disgorgement, no dosage liqueur is added to this label, meaning the mixture of wine and sugar commonly used in other cuvées. The wine therefore remains bare, intact and an authentic reflection of the vintage. In the glass, the Champagne captures the eye with a pale yellow colour enhanced by bright golden reflections. On the nose, the impact is expressive and decidedly tempting, with a bouquet in which delicate floral notes and clear hints of fresh fruit follow one another. On the palate, the attack is lively, almost sharp, but it quickly gives way to the generosity of yellow fruit reminiscent of ripe peach and apricot. The finish reveals very fresh notes of citrus fruit and lemon peel, giving the wine a wonderfully clean and persistent aromatic length. At the table, it proves to be an exceptional companion. Perfect with a platter of oysters and seafood. It also pairs beautifully with crispy fried small fish or homemade tagliolini with mountain butter and white truffle.
If there is one thing the world of Champagne has taught us, it is that behind great bubbles there are not only the prestigious frescoed salons of the great historic maisons. There is a parallel universe, vibrant and incredibly fascinating, made up of small independent winegrowers, deeply connected to their land, who work far from the spotlight to create true gems. Champagne Parmantier-Rigaut is the perfect portrait of this philosophy: a small family-run estate where know-how is passed down from generation to generation and every bottle tells the sincere story of the terroir it comes from. We are in the Petite Montagne de Reims, more precisely between the picturesque villages of Chamery and Ecueil. If these names do not mean much to you, it is enough to know that these villages are entirely classified as Premier Cru, a calling card that, in the language of Champagne, is synonymous with excellence and exceptional terroir. Here, the vines sink their roots into a magical soil: a mix of clay and sand on the surface, which gives warmth and roundness to the grapes, and deep chalk in the subsoil, the true secret that gives the wines that vibrant freshness and minerality we so love to find in the glass. Dominating the estate’s vineyards, covering as much as 50% of the surface area, is Pinot Meunier, a grape variety often considered “minor” by the big names, but which here, thanks to the characteristics of the soil, expresses an irresistible personality made of fruity aromas, softness and immediate drinkability. The remaining area is divided equally between the structure of Pinot Noir and the sharp elegance of Chardonnay.
