Nero d'Avola Sicilia DOC 2019

Nero d'Avola, Calabrese or Calabrese d'Avola. We can call it many different things. But what does not change is its typically Sicilian nature. It is no coincidence that it is defined as "the prince" of Sicilian grape varieties. In demand and appreciated since the 1800s, wine made from Nero d'Avola was spread beyond the island's borders thanks to the French merchants of the time who used it mainly as a blending wine. Today, thanks to more accurate processing techniques and a decidedly higher average quality, Nero d'Avola is exported all over the world. Its wines, endowed with great structure and complexity, have an intense, bright and lively ruby red colour with violet reflections. On the nose, they amaze for the richness of their aromas which directly recall fresh fruit, from plum to cherry, blackberry and currant. Then more intriguing notes of chocolate, leather and tobacco, cloves and liquorice. A fine example is this pure Nero d'Avola proposed by La Valle della Luna which, after vinification, partly matures for 8 months in French oak barrels. An extremely versatile wine, it goes perfectly with grilled meats and well matured cheeses. Ideal with mushrooms and game.
