Produced in Italy
Produced and bottled by Tenuta Isimbarda Soc. Agr. S.R.L. – Santa Giulietta (PV), Italy
It is called Cruasé and, in spite of its apparent Frenchness, it is a wine produced strictly in Oltrepò Pavese. Cruasé, in fact, is a word invented by the people of Pavia to indicate their good classic method wines produced 100% with the best Pinot Noir grapes, vinified in pink. A mark of absolute quality, therefore, assigned only to a relatively small number of bottles from the Oltrepò area. The one we offer here comes from the cellars of Isimbarda. It is a Brut, therefore a dry wine but not very dry, produced with the grapes harvested in the Santa Giulietta estate. The 24 months spent in close contact with its own yeasts in the bottle make this wine pleasantly complex but not excessive. In the glass it has a very intense pink hue, with light orange notes. On the nose we find the typical notes of the vine, ranging from small red fruits, such as strawberry, currant, blackberry and raspberry, to hints of rose. Well integrated, are then also notes of bread crust and yeast. In the mouth it is super pleasant and easy to drink. The structure, in fact, is not excessive and it invites you to fill your glass, sip after sip. We have no trouble imagining it at the centre of a table next to a tasty slice of salami. From Varzi, of course.
Isimbarda's history is that of ancient nobility of wine but much more as well. The name, for example, derives from the Marquis Isimbardi, a patrician family that owned the Santa Giuletta estate at the end of the 18th century. Later, in the 19th century, it was Don Luigi Isimbardi who followed its development, being a precursor of modern viticultural techniques. The family coat of arms is still present in the logo of the winery, which has been managed by Luigi Meroni since 1991. In the countryside the care of the vineyards is almost maniacal, with perfectly grassed rows that are tended like gardens. In the winery there is no lack of technology, and it is used to get the best out of the beautiful grapes of the Oltrepò from which wines of great personality and stylistic precision are obtained. From Bonarda to Pinot Noir, there are few Isimbarda wines that have not received awards and recognition around the world.
