Pinot Gris Hospice de Colmar 2020

Let's start with the assumption that Italian Pinot Grigio, particularly that produced in the Veneto and Friuli regions, is only a distant relative of what is offered here by Hospices de Colmar. Or rather the starting grapes are the same. What changes is the style of winemaking. Native Pinot Grigio is a crisp, fresh wine. A simple and pleasant white, suitable for a thousand occasions. Alsatian Pinot Gris, in contrast, is often a much richer and more concentrated, more intense wine. More complex. Accomplice, no doubt, is the natural environment from which the grapes come, characterized by very steep vineyards with mineral-rich soils and stones that reflect the sun's heat. This Pinot Gris, in particular, comes from manual harvesting, after all, it would be impossible otherwise, and careful winemaking with temperature control. After fermentation, the wine rests for some time on its fine lees, enriching itself with aromas and structure. Straw yellow with golden hues, the nose reveals a broad and interesting bouquet, with notes of exotic fruit in fine evidence. In the mouth, however, it proves to be a full-bodied white. Noble and elegant, this wine has a soft attack and then turns out to be pleasant, generous and warm.
