    Gewürztraminer Alsace AOC 2023
    • Made from 100% Gewurztraminer grapes, this still white wine perfectly embodies the tradition and quality of the Hugel family, who have been in the wine business since 1639. Riquewihr, located between 350 and 500 metres above sea level, enjoys a unique microclimate protected by the Vosges mountains, which provides ideal conditions for viticulture. The clayey, highly calcareous soils give the grapes a distinct minerality, contributing to the wine's freshness. The Alsace AOC appellation guarantees the origin and quality of the wines. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in small vats to the presses, which are filled by gravity without the use of pumps. After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours and fermented in temperature-controlled vats. At the end of this phase, the wine is racked once before natural clarification during the winter and, in the following spring, lightly filtered before bottling. The entire Hugel family production is sealed with DIAM corks, which eliminate the risk of contamination. This Gewurztraminer has a beautiful bright golden yellow colour. The nose reveals a refined bouquet with delicate floral notes of rose and jasmine, accompanied by hints of yellow fruit such as peach and tropical fruit such as lychee and mango. The palate is fine and delicate, with a balanced structure and good length. Pair with Asian and spicy dishes. Also good with smoked salmon and mature cheeses.
Famille Hugel is a wine estate that is a symbol of its territory. For centuries, it has been dedicated to the study and classification of the terroir. Their attention to the vineyard is meticulous, as evidenced by the fact that they limit the production of each individual wine to a maximum of 20-30 rows within a vineyard. This makes Famille Hugel one of the most authoritative figures in Alsace when it comes to zoning. It is no coincidence that every year, geologists and terroir experts travel to Alsace to enrich their knowledge by consulting with Hugel. Over time, this approach to classification has allowed the Alsatian winery to build a reputation for absolute excellence that has now lasted for 13 generations.
