Imbottigliato dalla Familie Hugel, Rue de la 1E Armée, 3 - 68340 Riquewihr, Francia
In the heart of Alsace, among the hills surrounding the picturesque village of Riquewihr, lies the Pinot Blanc Estate of Famille Hugel. This still white wine is made from 100% Pinot Blanc grapes. Riquewihr, located between 350 and 500 metres above sea level, benefits from a unique microclimate, protected by the Vosges mountains, which guarantees ideal conditions for viticulture. In particular, the clayey and highly calcareous soils give the grapes a distinctive minerality, contributing to the wine's freshness and structure. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in small tanks to the presses, which are filled by gravity, without the use of pumps. After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours and fermented in temperature-controlled vats. The wine is racked once before natural clarification during the winter and then, in the following spring, lightly filtered for bottling. The entire production is sealed with DIAM corks, which eliminate the risk of contamination. In the glass, it has a bright straw yellow colour. The nose offers a discreet and subtle bouquet with delicate floral notes. On the palate, freshness dominates, with hints of green apple, yellow plum and fresh hay, culminating in a harmonious and persistent finish. It pairs beautifully with fish and meat appetisers, mature cheeses, vegetable-based first courses and light fusion dishes. Also ideal as an aperitif.
Famille Hugel is a winery that symbolises its territory. For centuries, it has been dedicated to the study and classification of the terroir. Their attention to the vineyard is meticulous, as evidenced by the fact that they limit the production of each individual wine to a maximum of 20-30 rows within a vineyard. This makes Famille Hugel one of the most authoritative experts on zoning in Alsace. It is no coincidence that every year, geologists and terroir experts travel to Alsace to enrich their knowledge by consulting with Hugel. Over time, this approach to classification has enabled the Alsatian company to build a reputation for absolute excellence that has now lasted for 13 generations.
