Imbottigliato all'origine da Podere Giodo,Sant’Angelo in Colle 53024 Montalcino (SI)
Sangiovese according to Ferrini. Carlo Ferrini is not simply a producer, but one of the most awarded and respected winemakers in the world, and this Brunello represents the pinnacle of his personal vision. After contributing to the success of dozens of prestigious wineries, Ferrini decided to put down roots on the south-eastern slopes of Montalcino, creating a label that bears the name of the estate’s most prestigious vineyard. Pretto is the noblest expression of the Podere Giodo terroir, a tiny and almost miraculous parcel of land located at around 400 metres above sea level, where the sea breeze meets the cool air descending from the Apennines. The soil is rich in galestro, that schistous rock which forces Sangiovese roots to dig deep in search of nourishment, giving the wine an innate mineral character. Vinification begins with a long period of skin contact, followed by fermentation in both stainless steel and concrete. After délestage — an essential technique used to extract only the noblest tannins — the wine enters a long resting phase. It matures for around 30 months in wooden casks of different sizes (500, 700 and 2,500 litres), a choice that allows oxygen exposure to be carefully calibrated without ever masking the fruit. This is followed by 6 months in concrete and a further 18 months ageing in bottle before release. The result? In the glass it shines with a brilliant ruby-red colour. The bouquet is broad and layered. Cherry and sour cherry lead the way, followed by woodland berries, violets, undergrowth notes and noble hints of tobacco. On the palate it is pure silk. The freshness is vibrant and supports a deep structure where the tannins are ultra-fine yet firm. The finish is seemingly endless, with spicy echoes lingering in the memory for minutes. Already magnificent today, this wine possesses extraordinary ageing potential. It can comfortably rest in the cellar for 15–20 years, as its acidity and tannic structure will allow it to evolve into ever more fascinating tertiary complexity. An investment in patience that pays back with exceptional returns.
The story of Podere Giodo is that of a dream fulfilled. The dream of Carlo Ferrini, one of the most celebrated and award-winning winemakers in the world. In 2002, after years spent shaping the success of some of Italy’s most prestigious wineries, Ferrini decided to “go his own way” — not to build an empire, but to create an almost intimate project where every decision could reflect solely his own vision. Podere Giodo is a name carrying a deeply personal legacy: it combines the names of his parents, Giovanna and Donatello. Today, Carlo shares this adventure with his daughter Bianca, continuing a philosophy centred on absolute elegance and profound respect for the land. Everything began in Montalcino, on that privileged stretch of land between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Antimo. Here, Ferrini carefully selected just a few hectares — today around six — characterised by perfect exposure and soils rich in stones and minerals. Sangiovese is cultivated here using selected clones chosen for their low yields and exceptional quality, capable of producing wines that do not shout, but quietly whisper complexity. Then, a few years ago, the magnetic charm of Mount Etna captivated Carlo and Bianca, inspiring them to invest time and resources into another complementary project. This led to the birth of the “Alberelli di Giodo”, small plots of century-old Nerello Mascalese and Carricante vines trained in the traditional alberello style on the volcanic soils of Etna’s northern slopes.
