    Roero Arneis DOCG 2025
    • Millions of years ago, the hills of Roero were covered by the sea, and even today, among the vineyard rows of Filippo Gallino winery, small fossil shells can still be seen emerging from the sand. It is precisely this marine heritage that makes Roero Arneis DOCG such a unique white wine, capable of telling the story of a land that never ceases to surprise. We are in Canale, at the heart of an area that for decades remained in the shadow of the Langhe but now claims its place among the world’s great wine destinations. The Gallino family has lived on these lands for generations and experienced firsthand the rebirth of Arneis, a grape whose name in Piedmontese dialect means “mischievous” or “troublemaker”. This curious name comes from its difficult nature both in the vineyard and during vinification, a rebellious character that requires constant care. After harvesting, the grapes undergo gentle pressing using a pneumatic press. Vinification is carried out strictly as a white wine, immediately separating the juice from the skins to avoid extracting unwanted tannins. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. This technical choice is no coincidence: stainless steel is the perfect ally for preserving the grape’s primary aromas intact, without oak altering its vibrancy. On the nose, it opens with citrus notes reminiscent of citron, intertwined with sweet hints of chamomile and acacia blossom. Exotic touches of tropical fruit and the crisp flesh of white peach also emerge. On the palate it is fresh and savoury, with an almost saline minerality that recalls the marine origins of the soil. The finish is balanced and persistent, leaving a citrusy memory that immediately calls for another sip. Perfect with vegetable tempura or classic Piedmontese tajarin pasta dressed with butter and sage, where the savoury character of the Arneis balances the sweetness of the butter.

We are in the heart of the Roero, where sandy soils and steep slopes are not just part of the landscape, but the secret behind every wine. This is where Filippo Gallino winery operates, perfectly embodying the authentic and straightforward soul of a less “austere” and far more convivial Piedmont. The story of Filippo Gallino winery began long before Roero became a fashionable destination for wine lovers. We are in Canale, one of the historic capitals of this territory, where the Gallino family has cultivated vineyards for generations. In the 1970s, Filippo made a decisive move: he stopped selling bulk grapes and began bottling his own dream. Today, that same passion is proudly carried on by his son Gianni and his family. Filippo was one of the pioneers who believed in Arneis when the grape risked disappearing altogether. The winery also grows Nebbiolo which, in the hands of the Gallino family, loses the sometimes challenging rigidity of youth, becoming a silky wine scented with violets and small red berries.
