DONNAFUGATA S.r.l. Società Agricola
Dolce&Gabbana and Donnafugata. Two 100% Italian brands, united for once by a major project that has come to fruition in this bottle. We are talking about Isolano, Etna Bianco DOC, made from Carricante grapes, combined on this occasion with a small percentage of other native Sicilian varieties. Grapes from the eastern part of the island, specifically from the northern slope of Mount Etna. A white wine with great character, this Isolano matures for 9 months in tanks and, after bottling, continues to age for over 12 months in the cellar before being released for sale. Straw yellow in colour with golden reflections, it offers a refined bouquet with fragrant citrus notes of lemon zest, fruity notes of yellow apple and Mediterranean herbs. Isolano is a wine of great elegance that stands out for its persistence and extraordinary volcanic minerality. Perfect with shellfish, vegetarian first courses, porcini mushrooms, fish dishes or white meats.
There are wineries that every wine enthusiast thinks they know everything about. Simply because they have always represented the world of Italian wine. Among these, Donnafugata undoubtedly occupies a special place. For many, this winery is synonymous with Sicily and quality wine. A historic brand owned by the Rallo family, Donnafugata produces wines in different areas of Sicily. From east to west, from Trapani to Etna, there is no area in Sicily suitable for wine production where Donnafugata does not own a vineyard. What few people know, however, is that the name Donnafugata is due to Gabriella Rallo, wife of the founder and mother of the two enterprising current managers of the company. Gabriella Anca Rallo, a courageous woman with a penchant for innovation, was a pioneer of quality viticulture in Sicily. She is the real “donnafugata” (woman on the run) who abandoned her job as a teacher to devote herself full-time to the vineyards of Contessa Entellina. She was one of the first women in Sicily to produce wine, in a sector typically dominated by men. A true pioneer of quality viticulture for women. All that remains is to say thank you to Gabriella. For being so courageous and for inspiring all this. Cheers!
