"Jour de Fruit" Monbazillac AOC 2022
    • Monazillac Jour de Fruit from Domaine L'Ancienne Cure comes from a picturesque corner of south-western France, in the Monbazillac area. This area is known for producing sweet and aromatic wines. Here, the landscape is a painting of hills, rivers and woods, and its microclimate is the real star. The magic happens thanks to the combination of the morning mist rising from the Dordogne river and the sun that dissolves it in the afternoon. This alternation creates the ideal conditions for the development of Botrytis Cinerea, also known as “noble rot”. This precious fungus dehydrates the grapes, concentrating sugars and aromas and giving life to extraordinarily rich grapes. This is where the sweet wines of Monbazillac are born. Domaine L'Ancienne Cure interprets this tradition to the fullest, bottling the essence of a unique territory. A blend of two white grape varieties, with Sémillon accounting for the lion's share, around 90%, a grape that finds its maximum expression here and gives the wine structure and honeyed notes. The remaining 10% is Muscadelle, which contributes floral aromas and a lively character. The grapes, selected by hand only when they are perfectly “botrytised”, are taken to the cellar to be processed with the utmost care. Here, the must ferments for about 20 days, a long time that allows all the aromas to be extracted and fixed in the best possible way. Intense and brilliant golden in colour, the bouquet is a kaleidoscope of sensations. Notes of candied fruit, such as white peach and citron, are recognisable, complemented by hints of honey and a spicy touch of saffron. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, with a surprising density. The balance between sweetness and pleasant acidity is perfect, and the long, persistent finish leaves a fascinating trail of spices.

We are in Colombier, in the heart of the Monbazillac appellation, an area that perhaps not everyone knows, but which is a real hidden gem of south-western France. This is where Domaine L'Ancienne Cure is located, a winery that has been living in symbiosis with its land for five generations. For decades, the Roche family has been cultivating its vines, although the real turning point only came in 1989. In that year, Christian Roche, after inheriting part of the property, made a courageous and decisive decision: to start making wine from his own grapes. No longer just a farmer, but a true winemaker, with the ambition of transforming the fruits of his labour into wines that could authentically express the territory. Christian devoted years to experimentation, study and refinement of techniques, guided by an inexhaustible curiosity and a deep respect for nature. Today, the estate covers 47 hectares, with a clear prevalence of white grape varieties such as Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, but also less common varieties such as Ondenc and Chenin Blanc.
