There is all of wine Australia in this bottle offered by De Bortoli Wines. Or at least a significant part of it. The variety used is the typical Australian Shiraz that comes from South Eastern Australia. A blend of grapes from different terroirs, specifically one half from Riverina, then Heathcote, Murray Darling, and a small portion of grapes from the Yarra Valley. A particularly interesting blend that is matured in American oak barrels for about 12 months before being bottled. The result is a deep and compact red in color, with clearly recognizable aromas of plum and blackberry, accompanied by the classic note of pepper. In the mouth, however, it is particularly intense, with hints of vanilla complementing ripe fruit and bitter chocolate flavors. Overall, this is a well-balanced wine with soft and satisfying tannins that give a generous and extremely long finish.
Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli, unmistakably of Italian descent, left a war-torn Europe about 90 years ago to seek their fortune and make a new life on the other side of the world. Sad stories of ordinary life at that time. Vittorio and Giuseppina, however, immediately show that they have an edge. They bought land in Australia and, through hard work and the support of many new friends, began producing small quantities of wine. They do this, initially, just to give fellow immigrants a drink. As time passed, however, and with the arrival in the company of his son Deen, and his wife Emeri, the business began to grow into something more serious and structured. Over time, De Bortoli's reputation grew as they expanded into the Yarra Valley. Today, the company is in its fourth generation and the challenges are not over. After all, the company's official motto is "Semper ad Majora," meaning toward greater things!
