Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli, of unmistakable Italian origin, left war-torn Europe about 90 years ago to seek their fortune and make a new life on the other side of the world. Sad stories of ordinary life at the time. Vittorio and Giuseppina, however, immediately showed that they had an edge. They bought land in Australia and, thanks to hard work and the support of many new friends, began producing small quantities of wine. At first, they did this just to give their fellow immigrants something to drink. Over time, however, and with the arrival of their son Deen, and his wife Emeri, the business began to grow into something more serious and structured. Over time De Bortoli's reputation grew as they expanded into the Yarra Valley. Today the company is in its fourth generation and the challenges are not over. After all, the company's official motto is 'Semper ad Majora' - towards greater things!
