Take a Chardonnay and plant it anywhere in the world. Regardless of climate or exposure, Chardonnay will always know how to give us beautiful surprises. And it's not just a climate thing. Chardonnay, in fact, like few grape varieties in the world is capable of producing extraordinary wines regardless of how it is processed. In steel or, as in this case, fermented and partially matured in Australian oak barrels. DB Chardonnay by De Bortoli Wines, the result of pure Chardonnay grown in Mudgee, in the wide and fertile valley of the Cudgegong River. We are about 250 kilometers from Sydney, in Riverina, New South Wales. In the glass, it is a beautiful pale straw yellow color with still obvious green hues. Fresh but well-ripened fruit dominates the nose, with hints of pear and a subtle touch of oak. In the mouth, however, it calls to mind even sweeter fruits such as melon and peach. The finish is fresh and crisp.
Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli, unmistakably of Italian descent, left a war-torn Europe about 90 years ago to seek their fortune and make a new life on the other side of the world.
