Cantina dei Colli Ripani, Contrada Tosciano 28, 63065 Ripatransone (AP)
We are in Ripatransone, in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in a village overlooking the sea from a height that challenges the conventions of coastal viticulture. Here, Cantina dei Colli Ripani cultivates its vineyards on steep, clay-rich soils. A local anecdote says the wine’s name pays tribute to folk legends telling of such strong air currents that they feel like pranks played by a mischievous devil, yet capable of keeping the grapes perfectly healthy and concentrated. Marche IGT Rosso: this designation allows the winery to express creativity without excessive constraints, focusing entirely on the absolute quality of the raw material. 95% Montepulciano, completed by a small but decisive 5% of Cabernet Sauvignon. This international touch acts as a binding element, adding a hint of elegance and aromatic complexity that elevates the overall profile of the bottle. The grapes are carefully selected and hand-harvested in small crates. 30% of the bunches are dried, a technique that concentrates sugars and aromas. After a long maceration on the skins of around 20–25 days and the use of délestage to extract only the finest tannins, the wine from the dried grapes is blended with the rest, creating an explosive mix of softness and power. In the glass, Diavolo e Vento shows an intense, almost dark ruby red. The nose is broad and deep: bold notes of chocolate, freshly roasted coffee and sweet spices, followed by ripe cherry and wild blackberry. On the palate it is full, enveloping and remarkably persistent. The tannic structure is dense yet velvety, perfectly balanced by a warmth of alcohol that never tires. The perfect wine for Sunday meals. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb with herbs or a black pepper beef steak.
Colli Ripani: we build our future one step at a time. We are in the Marche region, in the hilly area that follows river valleys down to the Adriatic. And we are at about 500 metres above sea level, despite being incredibly close to the coast. This is where Cantina dei Colli Ripani is located, one of the most well-known and productive wineries in the region. Founded in 1969, its first vinification dates back to 1977. Today it relies on the work of over 330 “local” growers, united by the desire to enhance local wine production and particularly the native grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Pecorino and Passerina. The cooperative winery actively supports each member’s work and coordinates all stages of the process: from vineyard work to processing the raw materials, right through to marketing the finished product. This allows members to receive a fair agricultural income, ensuring the sustainability of their work and preserving long-standing traditions.
