This is one of those rare cases where the presence of mold on the grapes before harvest is not the cause of a problem. It is, on the contrary, the real fortune of the small Sauternes area where, thanks to unique climatic conditions, the nearly ripe clusters become covered with the so-called noble rot, or Botrytis cinerea. And it is this particular natural phenomenon that allows the production of sweet and elegant wines. One of a kind. A fine example is this Symphonie de Haut-Peyraguey 2016, made from a very clear majority Semillon grapes, with 5% Sauvignon Blanc. A ripe, rich and creamy Sauternes, characterized by a beautiful deep, bright golden yellow color. A wine that is already very good today but is not afraid to age for a few years in the cellar. Perfect to serve at the end of a meal with friends, with a nice slice of apple pie and a scoop of ice cream.
We are right in front of the famous Château d'Yquem. Peyraguey is an ancient barony that has survived over the centuries, whose first harvest dates as far back as 1618. In 1879 the estate was divided into two parts, and the higher lands at the top of Bommes Hill took the name Clos Haut-Peyraguey. This is the birthplace of the prized "Premier Grand Cru Classé de Sauternes" prized for its extreme elegance. Today the estate is owned by Bernard Magrez, who acquired it in 2012.
