Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion is a neighboring appellation to Saint-Émilion, located on the right bank of the Dordogne. It covers more than 750 hectares, characterized by mainly clay and limestone soils, where Merlot is particularly is emphasized. With it, of course, are the region's other typical grape varieties, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Wines from this appellation are generally powerful, with very present tannins. A nice example of this is this red proposed by Château Fayan, composed of 85 percent Merlot, 10 percent Cabernet Franc and just 5 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. Characterized by a beautiful dark and deep color, the nose reveals aromas of red fruits and spices. In the mouth, however, it proves perfectly balanced in all its components. It has a well-present but not intrusive tannin, but above all it is characterized by the long pleasantly fruity finish. The perfect companion to the classic grilled beef tenderloin, it is also the right wine to accompany a hearty cheese and charcuterie snack.
