We are in the Marche region, in an area considered the beating heart of Verdicchio: the historic area of Castelli di Jesi. Here, in the San Michele district, in the municipality of Cupramontana, is a land chosen for viticulture, so much so that it has earned the nickname ‘capital of Verdicchio’. The vineyards are located between 290 and 320 metres above sea level. At this altitude, the sun is generous but the night-time temperature variations are considerable, ensuring that the grapes slowly and perfectly accumulate aromas and an acidic backbone that will make them long-lasting. The soil, as is often the case in the best areas, is a complex mixture that gives the finished wine an unmistakable mineral imprint. Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore: the word “Classico” refers to the oldest and most suitable area of the appellation, while “Superiore” indicates a wine with a slightly higher alcohol content and greater production rigour, which translates into more structure and greater complexity. San Michele is a pure Verdicchio. The vineyards are farmed organically to preserve the authenticity of this cru. In the cellar, the approach is clean and aimed at enhancing the fruit. After harvesting, the grapes are pressed whole to extract only the finest juice. Fermentation is entrusted exclusively to indigenous yeasts, those naturally present on the grapes, which are the true “singers” of the terroir. Fermentation and ageing take place in concrete tanks to perfectly balance freshness with the right evolution, giving the wine a crisp and dynamic profile. Bright yellow in colour, inviting to drink, the nose reveals an incredibly intense and layered bouquet: floral notes are the protagonists, with a clear hint of elderflower and a fresh scent reminiscent of freshly cut grass. This is combined with citrus notes of lemon and, inevitable in Verdicchio, a hint of almond. On the palate, the sapidity is perceptible and pleasant. It is given by the soil and perfectly balances the vibrant freshness. It has a moderate creaminess and a beautiful body that is not heavy, but envelops the palate in an extremely balanced and versatile sip. The finish is clean, persistent and immediately entices you to refill your glass. If you are looking for a wine that can stand up to important dishes without ever holding back, this is the one!
Campanelli Azienda Vinicola is a young winery in the Marche region. We are located in San Paolo di Jesi, in the heart of the historic area where one of Italy's greatest white wines is produced: Verdicchio. The Campanelli family has been cultivating its vineyards here for some time, but it is with Francesco Campanelli that, starting in 2021, this passion has been transformed into an ambitious wine-making project. The starting point is clear and powerful: to let Verdicchio speak for itself. Their production philosophy is based on a concept that is revolutionising the world of Italian wine: parcel vinification, or so-called “cru wines”. The vast territory of Castelli di Jesi is a complex mosaic. Each individual district or vineyard, despite being close to the others, has a radically unique character. This is why Campanelli decided to isolate and bottle these different personalities. It is meticulous work that requires attention and in-depth knowledge of the vineyard. This attention to detail in the vineyard translates into precise choices in the cellar. Campanelli firmly believes in the value of sustainability and therefore operates under organic farming practices. The vineyard is worked with the utmost respect, without the use of synthetic chemicals, to preserve the vitality of the soil and the authenticity of the grapes. In the cellar, on the other hand, the approach is artisanal and non-interventionist.
