Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute sarl Via di Nozzole 12 Greve in Chianti (FI)
Chianti Classico DOCG Nozzole: authentic Sangiovese from Greve in Chianti. Produced by Tenuta di Nozzole, in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, this red wine is one of the most interesting products of the historic Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari estate. A modern expression of pure Sangiovese that combines tradition and innovation. The Tenuta di Nozzole estate extends over silty-clay soils, poor in skeleton, at an altitude of between 280 and 380 metres above sea level. These soil and climate conditions favour the production of high-quality Sangiovese, capable of giving the wines structure and longevity. 100% Sangiovese, selected from vineyards with a planting density of between 2,800 and 5,500 vines per hectare, production is kept low to bring out the best of the terroir. Vinification takes place in stainless steel, with maceration for about 15 days at a controlled temperature, using délestage and pumping over techniques. Ageing continues for 10-12 months in toasted French oak barrels, with a 33% turnover, followed by further ageing in the bottle for at least 3 months. Intense ruby red in colour, the nose offers generous aromas of ripe fresh fruit and cherries in alcohol, with tertiary notes of leather, tobacco and sweet vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied, soft and savoury, with a persistent and balanced finish of silky tannins. There is no doubt about its place at the table. This wine was created to accompany the fine dishes of the Tuscan tradition: red meat, game and mature cheeses. In the kitchen of the Villa di Nozzole, for example, it is served with Chianina beef steak, accompanied by white beans dressed with extra virgin olive oil from the farm. Are you hungry?
The Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari estates are one of the most interesting wineries in Tuscany, with roots dating back to the 18th century. The Folonari family began their wine-making business in the late 1700s, when Lorenzo Folonari, originally from Valtellina, started an entrepreneurial tradition that would profoundly mark the history of Italian wine. In 2000, Ambrogio and his son Giovanni Folonari founded the Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari Tenute winery with the aim of promoting the family's properties and producing high-quality wines. Today, the company comprises five estates located in some of the most renowned areas of Tuscany. Tenuta di Nozzole, located in the heart of Chianti Classico, Le Tenute del Cabreo, in Greve in Chianti, where Supertuscans such as Cabreo Il Borgo and La Pietra are produced. Then there is Tenuta La Fuga, in Montalcino, Campo al Mare in Bolgheri and Vigne in Porrona in the Tuscan Maremma. The Folonari family has always focused on innovation and quality. In recent years, the company has invested over €9 million in the construction of a new winery at Tenute del Cabreo, designed by architect Carlo Ludovico Poccianti.
