A bright, expressive style, this Barolo features strawberry, cherry, floral and cut hay aromas and flavors. Iron and tobacco accents flirt around the edges as the dense matrix of tannins emerges on the lingering finish. Best from 2023 through 2040. 2,500 cases made, 900 cases imported. — BS
Barolo lovers bring it on! What Tenuta Cucco offers here, in fact, is not just a simple Barolo but the fruit of the vinification of grapes from a single fortunate territory. The area is that of Bricco Voghera, a cru of Serralunga, one of the historic communes of the appellation, one of the highest and the one from which the freshest and most 'youthful' wines come. A wine of great exuberance, this Barolo DOCG is left to mature for 24 months in traditional 25-hectolitre barrels, where it refines and acquires elegance. This is followed by 12 months in the bottle. Pale red with a beautiful orange hue, and for this reason fascinating and typical, this Barolo presents the classic aromas that derive from the vine and the soil. Hints of withered rose, underbrush, plum, liquorice and spices. A wine with a fresh and youthful acid component, it has tannins that support a good structure. The aromas are elegant and of fine intensity. The fruit is sweet, with more evolved sensations that recall tobacco and dried herbs.
Cucco, in the local dialect, is the top of the hill where the estate's oldest vineyard is located, within the Cerrati cru. Tenuta Cucco was established as a winery in the 1960s and enjoys a breathtaking view of the peaks of Monviso, with the vine-covered hills surrounding it and a glimpse of the Castle of Serralunga d'Alba which, with its unmistakable slender and narrow structure, is an icon of the Italian landscape. In recent years Tenuta Cucco has been owned by the Stroppiana family, who bought it in turn in 1966 from the Cappellano family and built the winery's first cellar. At the end of 2015 it was taken over by the Rossi Cairo family, who have been running a beautiful Demeter-certified biodynamic farm for years. The vineyards of Tenuta Cucco insist on the oldest portion of the ancient land of Barolo and enjoy an ideal altitude that allows the tannins of Nebbiolo to be further highlighted. And to have guaranteed the best temperature range, fundamental for the ripening of the fruit. 13 hectares cultivated with different grape varieties. The main one is undoubtedly Nebbiolo, alongside Dolcetto, Chardonnay and Barbera.
