    "Stefano" Valpolicella DOC Superiore 2023
    • Stefano Accordini's Valpolicella Superiore DOC is not just any red wine. It is a wine that conveys the energy and freshness of the vineyards cultivated in the mountains. A true ode to the Veneto region and the Fumane area. We are in one of Italy's most fascinating wine-growing landscapes, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica, in the province of Verona. The Accordini winery, in particular, is located high up in Cavalo di Fumane, at an altitude of about 550 metres. This altitude is not a minor detail, but a lifestyle choice. The calcareous soils and cooler climate give the grapes a vibrant acidity and distinctive aromas. This Valpolicella Superiore DOC is a skilful blend of Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Molinara. This classic blend defines the character of the appellation, with Corvina providing structure and cherry aromas, Rondinella adding a spicy note and Molinara contributing its freshness. The Superiore designation indicates that the wine is aged for at least one year from 1st January following the harvest and that the alcohol content is above 12%. In the case of Accordini, the wine is aged in large oak barrels, a choice that serves to tame the tannins and soften the wine without masking its fruity fragrance. The result is a glass that shines with a beautiful intense ruby red colour which, as soon as you bring it to your nose, offers an elegant and inviting bouquet of aromas. Ripe cherry and red fruits dominate, accompanied by nuances reminiscent of almonds and a slight spiciness from the wood. A clean and seductive nose that prepares you for the taste. On the palate, it reveals a medium body with a beautiful structure that prevents it from being banal, but above all, it stands out for its vibrant freshness. The finish, on the other hand, is savoury and persistent. A real pleasure.

There is a winery in Valpolicella that can be described as the highest in the Classic zone. It is Stefano Accordini, located in Cavalo di Fumane, at an altitude of 550 metres. However, this is not just a geographical curiosity; it is the real cornerstone of their philosophy. The winery's origins date back to the early 20th century, when Gaetano Accordini began producing wine. The real leap forward, however, came with the following generations, who decided to focus entirely on the hilly and mountainous areas. Today, the winery owns about 25 hectares of vineyards in an area where the soil is calcareous and stony, combined with a unique microclimate. Here, we can talk about heroic viticulture, with terraced land thanks to typical dry stone walls called “marogne”. . The altitude gives the grapes a considerable temperature range, which translates into slower and more gradual ripening that preserves the acidity and, above all, the more delicate and complex aromas of native grapes such as Corvina and Rondinella. Today, the winery is run by a new generation, represented by Giacomo, Paolo and Marco Accordini, who are continuing Stefano's work with a strong focus on innovation. Their philosophy is based on two pillars: excellence in the upper Valpolicella and a concrete commitment to eco-sustainability. The entire company operates organically, with the aim of eliminating contamination, thanks in part to its isolated location, and the new winery, inaugurated in 2011, designed to minimise environmental impact.
