Catarratto is one of Sicily's many indigenous grape varieties and represents one of the oldest and most traditional varieties in the region. In fact, it has been cultivated in Sicily for centuries, yielding wines of great pleasantness. The clusters of Catarratto are medium-sized and compact. This variety is best known for its great productivity, although it is rather sensitive to the nature of the soils on which it is cultivated. The Rudinì winery offers it in this super pleasant version. Pure Catarratto, from the vineyards of Pachino, the grapes are harvested at the end of August. In the winery, vinification is simple and precise and takes place entirely in temperature-controlled steel tanks. What is obtained is a white wine of great freshness and fullness. In the glass, it has a straw-yellow colour with beautiful green reflections. On the nose, hints of citrus fruits and orange blossom prepare for a sip that is pleasantly fresh and savoury. Served at a temperature of about 10 degrees, therefore cool but not cold, it goes well with seafood hors d'oeuvres and fish dishes in general.
Long before the advent of the cherry tomato, the Pachino area was characterised by the green expanses of bush-trained vineyards. And it is to this land that the story of Saro Di Pietro, the 'cantiniere', founder of the Rudinì winery, is linked. In 1969, Saro was a must seller. As a taster, sitting at the 'scagno' in the central square of Pachino, he judged the musts of local winemakers which, once 'promoted', could take the road to northern Italy where they were used to enrich local wines. In 1972, Saro Di Pietro bought the Rudinì palmento from Count Corrado Moncada di Paternò and built a modern wine cellar there, focusing everything on Nero d'Avola. A more than apt choice, we might say today.... After all, Pachino has always been considered the cradle of Nero d'Avola and an area of origin of great red wines. An area that enjoys absolutely unique pedoclimatic conditions. Located at the southernmost point of Europe, at the southernmost tip of Sicily, facing the Mediterranean and the African coast. Rudinì draws its grapes from over 200 hectares of the most qualified vineyards around Pachino. In addition to the prince of Sicilian wines, Nero d'Avola, the Rudinì wine range includes Chardonnay, Inzolia, Syrah and Merlot. International grape varieties that have, however, found an optimal habitat in Sicily.
