"Malanders" St. Magdalener Südtirol-Alto Adige 2021
  • Malanders is made from a blend of 95% Vernatsch (Schiava) grapes, with a touch of Lagrein to back it up. Vineyards conducted with the traditional system of pergola, perfect for creating quality and to break the back of the poor winemakers, forced to perform all major operations manually. But then again... The two young winemakers at Pitzner Winery don't seem to mind the fatigue. Their goal is to produce great wines from the territory. And this is certainly no exception. Carefully vinified and aged in second and third hand French oak barriques, this red wine is a beautiful light ruby colour in the glass, with violet reflections. On the nose, black cherry and red currant. The wood, in this case, leaves a slightly smoky note that quickly evolves into evident memories of mocha and chocolate. In the mouth the tannin is reminiscent of 70% dark chocolate. A very pleasant sensation that lingers for several seconds after drinking. It is the right wine for a "Brettlmarende", the tasty traditional South Tyrolean snack. More generally, it requires a flavourful pairing, but not too much. Medium aged cheeses and cold cuts

For once, the dusty coat of arms is countered by a sparkling good mood. The two eclectic brothers, Markus Thomas Puff, run their small boutique winery near Bolzano. To learn more about them and their products, just think that.... "in the land below Cornedo Castle, not far from Bolzano, weapons were once manufactured for the local lords. Today we produce wines with a strong character, authentic pleasure bombs". That's what they say about themselves on their website and it's really hard to disprove them. Pitzner Winery has five different vineyards, located in five different areas. And the challenge for the dynamic duo of South Tyrolean winemakers is to get only the best from each individual vineyard. And so it is that every year fans can enjoy a total of 35 thousand bottles. Only a small number? Of course. But on the other hand, they are all very, very good. "In Cardano's cellar, "little but good" is a law that cannot be disputed. It is appreciated."
