Bottled by Weingut/Vigneto Erbhof Pitsch am Bach – Bolzano, Italy
Produced in Italy
Lagrein is a symbol of South Tyrolean viticulture. A generous grape capable of producing pleasantly fresh wines that are easy and immediate to drink. The version offered here at Pitsch am Bach is super traditional. It comes from a hand harvest of the best bunches selected on the plant. Vinification is traditional, with particular attention to fermentation temperatures, and ends with a period of maturation in steel. All with a view to producing a clean wine that is representative of its territory of origin. In the glass it is a beautiful deep ruby red colour. The nose reveals notes of various berries, such as blackberries, blueberries and blackcurrants. In the mouth, however, it proves to be full-bodied, with velvety tannins and an intense and persistent finish. This is the wine to choose if the evening promises to be a tasty one and if the table is laid with tasty meat dishes, including game. On its own it can accompany an evening in pleasant company.
We are in that remote corner of Italy where, instead of simple Italian, people prefer to speak German. And where the wines have the same style. Here you will find Weingut Pitsch am Bach. We are located between S. Giustina and S. Maddalena in Bolzano, where the vines take root in an interesting soil, composed of river gravel with a high sand and medium humus content. The company has ancient origins, so much so that it was mentioned for the first time back in 1350. Located at an altitude of about 300 metres above sea level, it enjoys an enviable record of about 300 days of sunshine per year. An excellent prerequisite for producing excellent wines. Today, the Pitsch Winery is run as a "heritage farm" by the Schweigkofler family, the eighth generation to engage in winegrowing. Only autochthonous grape varieties are cultivated, from Lagrein to Vernatsch, from Gewurztraminer to Sudtiroler Goldmuskateller. The vineyard is managed in a natural way and the grapes are processed according to traditional winemaking techniques.
