"Quercegobbe" Merlot Toscana IGT 2021

Quercegobbe is a Toscana IGT. It is offered here by Petra, of the Moretti family. A red of great character and personality, it is made from 100% Merlot grapes from a single vineyard, a cru, located in San Lorenzo Alto. Vigna Quercegobbe is located on the edge of the Mediterranean maquis, on a well-ventilated hill overlooking the sea. These conditions give the wine a unique character and unparalleled elegance. Native to the Bordeaux region, Merlot stands out among international grape varieties for its ability to produce wines of great smoothness and structure, with fruity and spicy aromas. This Quercegobbe is certainly no exception, which in the glass has a very concentrated ruby red colour. The nose reveals a broad bouquet of great appeal, with notes of jammy blueberries, dried raspberries, black cherries in syrup, prunes, myrtle, rosemary, liquorice, cinnamon and pepper. In the mouth it is dense, rich, soft, with round, silky tannins and a calibrated freshness. The finish is persistent and consistent with the perfumes on the nose. This is due to the ageing of about 12 months in 20% new barriques. This passage in wood gives the wine greater complexity and structure, as well as smoothing out the tannins and making them softer. It goes well with well-structured meat dishes: roasts, braised meats and game, as well as mature cheeses and first courses with meat sauces.
