PELASSA DANIELE / Azienda Agricola DANIELE PELASSA - Casali Castellero, 2 - 12046 - Montà d'Alba (CN) - ITALIA
Here's a new submission from Pelassa. The Roero Arneis Tucci is redolent of soft citrus, honey, orchard fruit and beeswax. This is a generous, mid-weight white wine that wraps smoothly over the palate with soft and creamy layering. There are hints of crushed stone and mineral at the end of this elegant wine.
A pleasant, floral nose with hints of sweet citrus fruit, such as lemon zest and plenty of blood orange. Fresh mint, too. The same on the medium-bodied palate. Refreshing, squeaky-clean arneis. Drink now.
The other side of Roero. On the one hand, there are the great reds from Nebbiolo grapes, very fine and elegant wines that can age for a long time and give great satisfaction to those lucky enough to keep a few bottles for years. On the other hand, fabulous white wines, from Arneis grapes, which in some cases have the makings not only of surprising the most demanding palates, but even of elevating themselves to the rank of wines of great value. Such is the case with this Tucci, Roero Arneis, 100% Arneis, from the MGA (Menzione Geografica Aggiuntiva) of the same name. An unmistakable sign that what we are about to taste is a great wine from the territory. The vineyard of origin is in fact able to give grapes characterised by a particular structure and minerality. Harvested by hand in mid-September, after a fermentation phase lasting about 15 days, the wine remains for 9 months on its noble lees, kept in suspension with periodic batonnage. This is followed by a refinement phase lasting about 6 months in the bottle. A wine of remarkable structure and great persistence, both olfactory and gustatory, it has no difficulty in finding its place on any table. It does not matter whether the menu is meat or fish. Simply ideal is with roasts, especially veal, or with large baked fish.
Situated in Montà d'Alba, the Pelassa winery leads vineyards in the Roero and Verduno, for the production of Barolo. Mario founded the Pelassa company in 1960 at the end of his military service. Today, it is run by the whole family, with Maria Teresa, known as Teresina, who has always been at Mario's side, and her sons Davide and Daniele, in the vineyard and cellar respectively. A scrupulous work of selection and clonal programming within the new plantings, and great efforts for investments in the cellar, guarantee the enhancement of the quality of the grapes harvested and the achievement of the objective of producing wines that have a full wine-vineyard-terroir correspondence. It is no coincidence that in recent years the company has concentrated mainly on the cultivation of the three varieties that are best suited to the typical soils of the area: Arneis, Nebbiolo and Barbera.
