The Michele Chiarlo Langhe Nebbiolo Il Principe opens to a pretty garnet color and bright aromas of wild cherry, blue flower, hazelnut and earthy potting soil. The wine boasts authentic and pleasing aromas that get your appetite going, especially as you wait for that piping hot plate of tajarin al plin to come out from the kitchen.
I like the spiciness and richness to this nebbiolo with plum tart, dark cherries and incense. Medium body, ripe tannins and a fruit-driven finish. Drink now.

Il Principe by Michele Chiarlo is a Nebbiolo that perfectly represents the name it bears. Obviously it does not reach the power and importance of King Barolo but, when paired correctly at a dinner with friends, it will certainly have its say and will not make us regret the choice. It comes from young vines from both the Barbaresco and Roero areas. A careful but traditional vinification is followed by an ageing phase of at least 12 months, in steel, wood and bottle. The result is a wine characterized by an intense ruby red colour. On the nose notes of red fruits, violet and spices. In the mouth it is balanced, with good structure and freshness, with fine and elegant tannins. It closes with a precise and crisp finish.
It was 1956 when Michele Chiarlo founded his winery in Calamandrana, in the heart of the Asti area, and began producing his first Barolo. Strictly family-run, the winery developed thanks to the important purchases made in the best areas of the Langhe, including Cerequio and Cannubi. Today Michele Chiarlo can count on an estate of about 110 hectares of vineyards, 60 of which are owned and the remaining 50 under long-term lease. The total production exceeds one million bottles per year but, unlike many companies that have lost their strong family connotation over time, Michele Chiarlo, sons and grandsons are always in full control of production. Today the challenge is to achieve full sustainability. This objective has been pursued since the 1990s, when the first applications of integrated pest management, selective plant protection products and other natural practices began.
