In the heart of the Langhe, a red wine takes shape that is the pure expression of Piedmont’s noblest grape variety: Nebbiolo. It grows on calcareous soils with clay-loam components, in a territory where Nebbiolo finds its highest identity. The harvest, in the second half of October, captures the grapes at their perfect ripeness, ensuring structure and depth. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with maceration and pump-overs designed to extract elegance and complexity. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, which softens the profile and defines its harmony. In the glass it shows an intense red with garnet reflections. On the nose it is deep and persistent, with spicy nuances, hints of undergrowth and cooked fruit. On the palate it is powerful yet balanced, with well-integrated tannins and a long finish recalling ripe plums, dried figs and light notes of leather. The distinctive feature? The practical 50 cl format, ideal for enjoying a great Nebbiolo even in more intimate moments, without compromising on quality. It is a wine that evolves over time, capable of ageing for more than ten years. Versatile and gastronomic, it pairs naturally with rich pasta dishes, meats and cheeses. An authentic Nebbiolo that combines tradition and character in every sip.
It has been more than a century since the foundation of Bersano. The exact date is 1907, proudly highlighted on the homepage of the company website. We are in Nizza Monferrato, at the heart of the Barbera d’Asti area. The real turning point, however, came a few years later, in 1935, when Arturo Bersano, a man of remarkable intelligence and culture, a lawyer by family pride and a winemaker by passion, took over the winery, which until then had been a family-run business selling its wines only locally. His work was inspired by the motto “if you want to drink well, buy yourself a vineyard”. A philosophy that, as a true pioneer, he followed throughout his life. Over time, Bersano and later the Massimelli and Soave families, owners of the winery, have built an extensive network of estates. Here, without forgetting the strength of tradition, high-quality grapes are still produced, giving rise to wines typical of the region. Particular attention has always been paid to wood ageing, a true company heritage. Bersano cellars house large oak casks and tonneaux where, thanks to constant temperature and humidity, wines slowly mature over the years. Today Bersano is considered one of the most important wine producers in Piedmont.
