    Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC 2022
    • Today we find ourselves in the heart of the Langhe region of Piedmont, and more precisely in Diano d'Alba. Known as the ‘Paese dei Sörì’ (the land of the Sörì), a dialect term that indicates the vineyards with the best exposure to the sun, Diano d'Alba boasts 77 areas suitable for viticulture, guaranteeing superior quality wines. The Tenute Stefano Farina's Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC is produced in this privileged area. The grapes used for this wine come from vineyards located at about 600 metres above sea level, on clayey soils that give structure and minerality to the final product. The harvest takes place between the second and third ten days of October, when the grapes reach optimal ripeness. At the end of the vinification process, the wine matures for about 6 months in steel tanks, followed by a brief period of about 6 months in Slavonian oak barrels. Finally, it is aged in the bottle before being released on the market. Bright red in colour, with garnet reflections as it ages, the bouquet is subtle and delicate, with notes reminiscent of violets. In the mouth the flavour is slightly tannic. Fine and elegant, it offers a velvety and well-balanced sensation. This Nebbiolo goes well with a meat-based menu, roasts, braised meats and game. Its structure and finesse also make it ideal in combination with mature cheeses and typical dishes of Piedmontese cuisine.

The history of Tenute Stefano Farina has its roots in the 1930s, when Stefano Farina and his wife Giovanna ran a trattoria where, in addition to serving food, they also served wine. It was in this context that Stefano developed a growing interest in oenology, and in 1939 he decided to start his own winery, despite the difficulties associated with the war period. In 1941, the family moved to Erba, in Lombardy, and it was here that Stefano passed on his passion for wine to his children, particularly to Giancarlo. After studying oenology in Alba, Giancarlo understood the importance of producing quality wine directly from one's own vineyards. Today the Stefano Farina Estates boast five properties located in some of the most renowned wine-growing regions in Italy: Piedmont, Tuscany and Puglia. The first acquisition dates back to the mid-seventies with ‘La Traversa’ in La Morra, in the heart of the Langhe region of Piedmont. Subsequently, the company expanded into the Chianti Classico, Alba, Casentino and finally Salento areas in the Puglia region, a place particularly dear to the family due to the historical ties with the founder's wine business. The company's philosophy aims to enhance the value of native vines through modern wine-making practices, to obtain wines that reflect the essence of their territory.
