Imbottigliato all'origine da Cantina Marenco- Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, 18 – 15019 Strevi (AL)
Scrapona by Marenco is not your typical dessert wine, but a true expression of its terroir, capable of turning every assumption about aromatic wines upside down. We are in Strevi, in the picturesque Valle Bagnario, a corner of Alto Monferrato where winemaking has been a serious craft passed down through generations. Here, marl and sandy soils combined with a perfect south-western exposure create an exceptional microclimate for grape ripening. The very name of the vineyard, Scrapona, recalls the hard work required to cultivate these steep hillsides, where every single bunch demands dedication. Planted in 1996 using cuttings from the estate’s historic old vines, this vineyard benefits from remarkable day-to-night temperature swings. The result is an aromatic intensity that few places can match. Made from 100% Moscato Bianco, the region’s signature aromatic grape, Marenco enhances the purity of the fruit through strictly manual harvesting and meticulous bunch selection. In the winery, the grapes undergo gentle pressing and the must is clarified before fermentation. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, where the natural sparkle develops without any added sugar. This process preserves a fine mousse and a moderate alcohol content of around 5%. In the glass, it shines with a bright straw-yellow colour and golden reflections. The nose reveals floral notes, pear, apricot and hints of tropical fruit. On the palate, it impresses with its silky texture and perfect balance. The sweetness is clear yet never cloying, thanks to a vibrant mineral acidity that refreshes the palate and invites another sip. Perfect with traditional Piedmontese amaretti biscuits or hazelnut desserts. For a more adventurous pairing, serve it well chilled with fresh soft cheeses or light fried dishes, where its freshness and gentle sparkle work beautifully.
Marenco is a charming winery located in Alto Monferrato, in the village of Strevi, where viticulture is an ancient art shaped by steep hillsides and the characteristic white gullies rich in limestone and marl. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, Marenco is a family-run estate that has successfully brought local tradition into the future. Everything began with the vision of Michela Marenco who, together with her sisters Patrizia and Doretta, transformed the winery into a benchmark for the promotion of indigenous grape varieties. Today, that tradition continues with the same passion, combining the experience of past generations with a modern, dynamic and environmentally respectful vision. Marenco’s philosophy places biodiversity and sustainability at the centre of everything. The vineyards are treated as living ecosystems, with mechanical cultivation and controlled grass cover between the rows to preserve soil health and vine vitality. In the cellar, the focus is on cleanliness and precision. Winemaking techniques are designed to protect the grapes’ primary aromas while avoiding excessive oak influence, allowing the true character of the variety to shine through.
