Imbottigliato all'origine da Cantina Marenco- Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, 18 – 15019 Strevi (AL)
There is a corner of Piedmont where the vineyard rows are so steep that local growers once had to climb them almost like mountaineers. It is from this hard work of the past, described in the local dialect by the verb “scraponare”, that a legendary vineyard takes its name. Today, it produces one of the region’s most surprising wines. But let us start from the beginning. We are in Strevi, in the renowned Bagnario Valley, one of the finest wine-growing areas of Alto Monferrato. Here, the Scrapona vineyard enjoys a privileged position, blessed with optimal south-west exposure and rooted in soils composed mainly of marl and sand. This particular microclimate, characterised by significant day-to-night temperature variation, allows the grapes to develop extraordinary aromatic complexity. This Family Collection wine is produced exclusively from Moscato Bianco grapes. Organically grown, the grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand to preserve the fruit in perfect condition. They are then slowly dried to concentrate sugars, aromas and complexity. Following gentle pressing, fermentation takes place slowly at controlled temperatures to preserve aromatic purity and balance. The wine then matures for several months before bottle ageing, gaining greater depth, elegance and aromatic intensity while retaining its varietal freshness. In the glass it displays a bright straw-yellow colour with warm golden highlights. The nose bursts with a fragrant and refined bouquet, where pronounced floral notes intertwine with aromas of apricot, pear and hints of tropical fruit. On the palate it is a genuine revelation. Sweet yet never cloying, it is supported by a fresh mineral backbone that cleanses the palate beautifully.
Marenco is a fine estate located in Alto Monferrato, specifically in Strevi, a Piedmontese village where viticulture is an ancient art shaped by steep hillsides and distinctive white gullies. The soils, rich in limestone and marl, give the wines unmistakable savouriness and aromatic elegance. Founded at the beginning of the twentieth century, Marenco remains a family-run winery that has successfully carried local tradition into the future. Everything began with the vision of Michela Marenco who, together with her sisters Patrizia and Doretta, took the reins of the estate and transformed it into a benchmark for the promotion of the region’s indigenous grape varieties. Today, that tradition continues with the same passion, combining the experience of previous generations with a modern, dynamic and deeply respectful approach to the land. Marenco’s philosophy places biodiversity and environmental sustainability at its core. The vineyards are treated as a living ecosystem, with mechanical cultivation and controlled grass cover between the rows helping to preserve soil health and vine vitality. In the winery, the focus is on precision and purity. Vinification is designed to protect the grapes’ primary aromas while avoiding excessive use of oak, ensuring the original character of the variety remains at the forefront.
