    "Battistelle" Soave Classico DOC 2023
    • A soil that looks like stardust, where vine roots dig metres deep into dark basalt in search of freshness. We are in Brognoligo, in the heart of Soave Classico, where Le Battistelle takes its name from a hillside so steep that viticulture becomes a true test of endurance. This unique terroir gives the wine an almost cutting salinity, a hallmark that sets it apart from any other white wine from Veneto. In this small hamlet, the Dal Bosco family preserves old vines, witnesses to a farming tradition that has never given in to industrial logic. Garganega in purity, this grape variety is the soul of Soave and gives the wine a solid structure, never heavy, with a typical almond note that cleanses the palate and immediately invites another sip. A grape that ages gracefully, transforming its youthful freshness into an almost honeyed complexity over time. Harvest is strictly manual, as machines cannot reach these slopes. After gentle pressing, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature for about 20 days. The real secret, however, comes afterwards: the wine rests on its fine lees for about 6-8 months, with constant batonnage. This technique, which consists of stirring the lees, gives the wine a creaminess and roundness that perfectly balances its volcanic and mineral soul. Bright straw yellow, enriched with vivid golden reflections, on the nose it recalls white flowers such as hawthorn, fresh citrus fruits and an unmistakable flinty note. On the palate it is enveloping and savoury, almost crisp. The finish is long and clean, with a return of bitter almond and a freshness that never tires.
In the heart of Soave Classico, where the hills become steep and the land tells a thousand-year-old story of volcanoes and lava, stands Azienda Agricola Le Battistelle. We are in Brognoligo, a small hamlet of Monteforte d’Alpone. The story of Le Battistelle is one of a bold choice. Until 2002, the Dal Bosco family – led by Gelmino and Cristina, today together with their children Andrea and Gloria – delivered their grapes to the local cooperative winery, like many other producers in the area. Then came the turning point: the awareness of holding a unique heritage and the desire to tell its story first-hand. This is how the winery was born, named after the hill of the same name, a place where the vines sink their roots into a black, basaltic and generous soil. Here there are no modern tractors or automated machinery. Here “Heroic Viticulture” is practised, officially certified by CERVIM. The vineyards are spread across such steep slopes that every operation, from pruning to harvest, must be carried out strictly by hand. The production philosophy of the Dal Bosco family is simple yet rigorous: wine is made in the vineyard. The only protagonist is the native grape variety par excellence, Garganega, vinified in purity to let the different nuances of each vineyard emerge. Thanks to the richness of micro-elements and the basaltic nature of the soil, Le Battistelle wines stand out for their vibrant minerality and elegant structure.
