This exceptional Cuvée from Laurent-Perrier was conceived as a tribute to the 17th century, the Grand Siècle, considered a period of particular affluence and a protagonist of great changes. A cuvée that is both balanced and complex at the same time, it is composed mainly of Chardonnay grapes and only a small part of Pinot Noir. The grapes, carefully selected from no less than 11 different villages, all classified as Grand Cru, are vinified separately and then blended in varying proportions depending on the vintage. At least three different vintages are needed for complexity and refinement to achieve the right balance. In this 24th edition, for example, the basic blend comes from the 2004, 2006 and 2007 vintages. Luminous gold in colour, the glass is streaked with a delicate but persistent perlage. The nose reveals a wine characterised by a rich and elegant bouquet, with notes of pastry and honey, but also citrus and minerals. In the mouth, on the other hand, one discovers a full and vigorous wine, perfectly balanced between all its main components. It is a decidedly gastronomic Champagne, perfect to accompany a lunch or dinner, from the starter to the main course. Excellent with the classic combinations of fish, it can also accompany more flavorful dishes, including meat or game.
The origins of the Laurent-Perrier Maison go back as far as 1812, when the winery was founded by André Michel Pierlot in Tours-sur-Marne. The turning point in the history of the Maison, however, came a few years later, in 1881, when Eugene Laurent, Pierlot's cellarer, took over the winery with his wife Mathilde Emilie Perrier. Then, after the Second World War, Bernard de Nonancourt took over the management of the Maison and decided to increase production in order to expand the distribution of fine Champagnes to over 140 countries. Today Maison Laurent-Perrier is led by Bernard's daughters, Alexandra Pereyre de Nonancourt and Stéphanie Meneux de Nonancourt, together with Stephane Dalyac and Michel Fauconnet, the latter being the current Chef de Cave. Today the historic Maison can count on around 150 hectares of vineyards and is distinguished by a special and unique style. Each plot is harvested and vinified separately. Since the 1950s, Maison Laurent-Perrier has been processing each lot strictly in temperature-controlled stainless steel. In this way, it manages to keep the freshness and aromatic complexity of the initial fruit intact and unaltered. And wine lovers everywhere are grateful to him.
