Syrah Sicilia DOC 2019

Sicilia DOC is its denomination of origin. But the grape variety from which it is made is certainly not of Sicilian origin. Although it has found a simply ideal habitat on the island in the centre of the Mediterranean. It is, in fact, a pure Syrah. Legend has it that it was the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus who brought this interesting grape variety from Egypt. Today, it is considered one of the most popular international grape varieties in different parts of the world, particularly for its unmistakable spicy notes that closely resemble black pepper. The version proposed here by La Valle della Luna comes from a vinification in steel and a subsequent phase of maturation of part of the wine in French oak barrels. It takes at least 8 months to reach the right complexity and can then be bottled. Ruby red, the nose is intense and fruity, with a bouquet characterised by hints of small black fruits and the ever-present note of black pepper. In the mouth it reveals itself as a wine with great structure and persistence. Full-bodied and pleasantly fresh, it has soft and silky tannins. An excellent wine for the whole meal. It loves strong flavours, such as those of game or venison. Super enjoyable as an aperitif, while cooking, simply paired with a slice of medium-aged cheese.
