Imbottigliato all'origine da Az.Agricola La Poderina, Localita' Poderina, 53024 Castelnuovo dell'Abate SI
Located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, the La Poderina estate boasts 38 hectares of south-east facing vineyards. Here, Sangiovese grosso ripens perfectly thanks to constant breezes and significant temperature variations. Mount Amiata, to the south, acts as a natural shield against storms and hail, while the galestro, alberese and clay soils give the grapes minerality and finesse. The altitude varies from 120 to 450 metres, ensuring the presence of very different microclimates within a few kilometres. This is why each parcel of Montalcino has its own personality. Brunello, the historic name of the local clone of Sangiovese grosso, is trained using the spurred cordon method with yields well below the 80 q/ha allowed by the regulations, in order to concentrate aromas and structure. Harvested by hand at the end of September, fermentation takes place in steel tanks with pumping over and délestage. This is followed by post-fermentation maceration and, after racking, the wine matures for a long time in wood: four months with weekly bâtonnage, then another twenty months of “static” ageing. This is followed by a long rest in the bottle, with an estimated ageing potential of around 15 years. Bright garnet red in colour, the nose reveals notes of sour cherry and plum in alcohol, with hints of vanilla, sweet tobacco and a delicate balsamic note. Full on the palate, with dense but already integrated tannins and a savoury, persistent finish that leaves hints of liquorice and aromatic herbs.
Tenute del Cerro embodies a great winemaking dream, which began in 1978 with the acquisition of Fattoria del Cerro in Acquaviva di Montepulciano and Tenuta di Montecorona in Umbria, followed by the addition of other historic estates such as La Poderina in Montalcino, Còlpetrone in the heart of Montefalco, and Monterufoli in the Pisan hills. Today, the group owns almost 5,000 hectares, of which about 300 are vineyards. The result of continuous investment in precision viticulture and technological wineries, the company embraces agriculture 4.0 and sustainability models, guided by high-level management and drawing on the expertise of renowned oenologists such as Riccardo Cotarella. The beating heart of the company is Fattoria del Cerro, the largest private estate within the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG appellation, with 93 hectares registered in the register. Since 2002, the group has been part of the Japanese multinational Saiwa – now Mitsubishi – through its Italian subsidiary UnipolSai. This link has brought a significant boost in terms of innovation and investment, without altering the agricultural and territorial soul of the estates. An interesting fact: in the heart of the Fattoria del Cerro there is an ancient Etruscan sluice gate, which gives its name to one of the company's most iconic labels. A symbol of deep roots and a thousand-year-old bond with the territory.
