A fine example of Shiraz from the Western region of Australia. The grapes used for this Crofters Shiraz from Houghton Wines come from the best vineyards in the Frankland River region. Manual harvest, maceration and fermentation at controlled temperature for 8 days. Then malolactic in French oak barriques and maturation, again in barriques, for about a year. An unmistakable style that distinguishes many of the good red Aussie (Australian) wines that receive awards and recognition from international critics. In the glass it has a beautiful dark red colour, intense and at the same time brilliant, with a scarlet hue. The nose reveals a lovely bouquet of scents, ranging from black fruit, and in particular currant and plum, to classic notes of dark chocolate, tobacco and even black olives. All this is well integrated with subtle aromas of vanilla, no doubt derived from ageing in French oak. In the mouth it is generous and smooth, with hints of mocha and blackcurrant. The tannin is fine but evident. Pleasantly balanced acidity.
